Commissioning,
line-by-line

We move newly-installed automation through controlled bring-up - sub-system run-up, integration testing, throughput validation and SAT execution - until the line clears acceptance with full documentation.

Approach

Approach to delivery.

Commissioning is where installation quality becomes operational throughput. We bring up subsystems in a controlled sequence, validate against the integrator’s acceptance criteria, and clear the SAT with documentation that audits to plan.

Pre-commissioning

Loop checks, calibration, sensor verification and safety circuit validation before the line moves a single tote. The point is to surface issues at the bench, not at peak.

Functional bring-up

Subsystems started in a controlled sequence under load. Throughput, control-loop tuning and exception handling tested against integrator scripts. Defects logged, prioritised, resolved.

SAT & handover

Site Acceptance Test executed against the integrator’s scripts. Punch-list closed, as-built dossier issued, operations team trained - line handed over with everything in writing.

Why it matters

Why quality matters.

A line that ships on day one but degrades by week six was never commissioned - it was just turned on.
- Operations doctrine · MERIXA commissioning crew

Commissioning is the only phase where the integrator can prove to the customer that the system performs to the curve sold. A clean SAT means contract milestones release, the customer takes operations, and the integrator’s capital is no longer tied up in defect closure.

A bad commission stays bad. Loops left untuned cause stoppages weeks into operations. Sensors out of calibration cause false rejects that erode throughput. Software handshakes that “work most of the time” surface as the customer’s 03:00 callouts during peak.

Our crew runs commissioning to a written acceptance plan - every loop check signed, every defect logged with proposed remedy, every SAT script executed with the integrator’s witness present. The dossier we hand over is the audit trail the customer’s ops team will rely on.

For integrators, the result is the milestone clearing on schedule, with an as-built record that holds up six months later when a planned upgrade comes round.

Common questions

Commissioning - questions.

Q.01
When in the project does commissioning typically begin?
Pre-commissioning starts the day the last fastener is torqued. Functional bring-up follows in the same week if the punch list is clean, or after closure of any installation defects logged at hand-over.
Q.02
Do you support the customer’s SAT or only run your own?
We execute the integrator’s SAT scripts. Our role is to deliver a system that passes them; the customer’s witness signs the result. We bring our own pre-SAT script to surface defects before formal acceptance.
Q.03
How are commissioning defects logged and resolved?
Logged in writing the same shift. Categorised against severity, prioritised against the SAT calendar, and resolved with a written remedy that the integrator’s PM signs before the next phase opens.
Q.04
Can you run commissioning under live operations?
Yes - rolling-bay and night-shift commissioning is a core competency. We coordinate with the customer’s operations team to bring up subsystems without disrupting active production cells.
Q.05
Do you train the customer’s operations team during handover?
Yes. Operations training is part of every SAT closeout - workflow walk-through, exception handling, escalation paths and as-built dossier orientation.
